Fantasy football tips: Why Philippe Coutinho is officially the most valuable player

We have a new king of the fantasy football world.

While Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane lead the Dream Team total points rankings after stunning goalscoring seasons, one man is outperforming them on a game by game basis.

And that is Salah’s Liverpool team-mate Philippe Coutinho.

Spartak Moscow simply had nothing to stop Philippe Coutinho from ripping them apartCoutinho is the man of the momentReuters

The Brazilian more than flirted with Barcelona in the summer and many still feel his dream move to the Catalans giants will materialise in January.

But if you thought Coutinho’s form would nosedive as a result, you would be very, very wrong.

And after his purple patch in recent weeks, the man they call ‘O Magico’ at Anfield has officially become the most valuable player on fantasy football.

That’s because no player this season averages more than his 8.9 points per game, just ahead of Kane (8.5).

Why Coutinho is the MVP

9 goals and 6 assists in 14 appearances in all competitions Averages 8.9 points per game on Dream Team – more than any other player Has registered back to back 10/10 ratings from WhoScored Scored 47 points in Game Week 14

Coutinho’s form in the last month has been absolutely electric.

He’s scored at least 15 points in three of his last five appearances, scoring five goals and notching a further four assists in that spell.

In the last seven days alone, Coutinho has record successive 10/10 ratings from WhoScored – against Brighton and Spartak Moscow – and bagged his first ever Liverpool hat-trick the night he captained the club for the first time.

In fact, the 25-year-old recorded an eye-watering 47 Dream Team points in Game Week 14 after those two scintillating displays.

That’s utterly insane.

At £7.3m the magician is a £0.1m cheaper than Eden Hazard, who averages 6.1 points per game, and £0.1m pricier than Kevin De Bruyne, who manages just 5.8.

So, given the form he’s in at the moment and Liverpool’s kind fixture list, is he now a fantasy football must have?
