Alexis Sanchez equalled his own woeful Man United record in Newcastle defeat

It’s not gone well for Alexis Sanchez since his move to Manchester United, has it?

The forward joined Jose Mourinho’s side from Arsenal in a straight swap for Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January, but has failed to really justify his £350,000-a-week wages so far.

And in today’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle, the Chilean reached a whole new level of bad by losing possession a record-equalling (for him, anyway) 36 times in the match.

He also gave the ball away 36 times in the win over Huddersfield, and he’s dangerously close to breaking Nani’s long-standing record of giving the ball away 38 times in the 3-2 defeat to Blackburn Rovers back in 2011.

Prior to his move to Old Trafford, he had a bit of a reputation for losing possession.

In fact, no Premier League player has lost possession on more occasions than Sanchez since he arrived on these shores in 2014.

That sorry fact has seemingly continued at United, with Sanchez losing possession a staggering 125 times in just four appearances, which is an average of every 2.7 minutes.

That’s not good.

While Mourinho has never been a particularly possession-obsessed coach, he’ll be more than a little dismayed to learn that his marquee January signing has lost possession over twice as much as the next worst offender at the club, which is Antonio Valencia.

Oh, if that wasn’t bad enough, Sanchez also did this in today’s game.
