MOSCOW — Even taking a financial hit from Italy and the United States failing to qualify, FIFA’s top salesman insists the 2018 World Cup will make its income target. Italy’s loss in the playoffs wiped tens of millions of dollars off the value of an unsold broadcasting deal. One of FIFA’s most valuable markets is […]

Manchester City's In-Form Winger Raheem Sterling Set to Be Rewarded With New Contract
Manchester City are set to open talks with in-form winger Raheem Sterling over a new contract to prolong his stay at the Etihad. Although he still has two and a half years remaining on his current contract, City officials apparently feel his performances in the team this season warrant a pay rise. This news comes the day after Sterling scored a spectacular winner with the last kick of the game to beat Southampton 2-1. Raheem Sterling: Has scored more league goals from the 75th minute onwards...

Is this the best Premier League Golden Boot race in history?

The Premier League is blessed with some of the finest goalscorers on the planet at the moment.

And as fans we’re being blessed with almost all of them firing on all cylinders so far this season.

Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Morata, Romelu Lukaku, Gabriel Jesus and Alexandre Lacazette are all conventional poachers.

But this season they’ve been joined by two wildcards – and two of the season’s standout performers – in Mohamed Salah and Raheem Sterling.

Salah, who has bagged eight in his last six league games, leads the race by two with 12 but the chasing pack aren’t far behind.

In fact, only five goals separate Salah in first and Lacazette in eighth.

So we did some number crunching to determine whether this season could provide us with the best Golden Boot race in Premier League history.

And the results are fascinating.

If you take the top five goalscorers from every Premier League season, the most prolific campaigns are 2009/10 and 2016/17.

In 2009/10 the top five plundered a record 124 goals, with Didier Drogba’s 29 leading the way, and last season produced 118 as Harry Kane matched Drogba’s tally.

But this season is set to SMASH those records.

The top five so far – Salah, Kane, Aguero, Sterling and Morata/Lukaku/Jesus – have managed 48 goals between them with just 36.8% of the season completed.

That means at their current rate, the top five are on course to rack up a whopping 130 goals by the end of the campaign.

Alvaro Morata only joined Chelsea in the summer in a £65m dealMorata has been an instant hit in EnglandReuters

When you consider Lacazette and Jamie Vardy are knocking on the door of that top four too, we truly are being spoilt by some of the finest attacking talent all finding their groove at the same time.

Keep up the good work, lads.

Stoke City 0-3 Liverpool: Mane and Salah Steal the Show as Liverpool Claim an Impressive Away Win
Sadio Mane and substitute Mohamed Salah were the standout performers as Liverpool overcame a stoic Stoke City 3-0 at the Bet365 Stadium. Stoke had their fair share of chances, but couldn't take advantage as a heavily rotated Liverpool side claimed all three points. The game opened with some good passing play from Liverpool, testing the Stoke City defence with Stoke keeper Lee Grant being forced to come and claim Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's cross. The stat that proves this current Man United side is ahead of the majority of Sir Alex Ferguson’s title-winning squads

Many fans and pundits have already engraved Man City’s name on the Premier League trophy.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won all but one of their games so far this season and in most instances they’ve merged substance with style.

City have been so impressive that post-mortems have already begun among some of their title rivals.

Some questions are even being asked of Man United, such is the disparity between the two rivals, but a brief glance at the history books informs us that criticism of Jose Mourinho and his troops may be unwarranted.

United have 32 points from 14 games with ten wins, two draws and two losses.

Their tally at this stage of the season (and it’s worth noting that we are now over a third of the way through the campaign) is better than that of the majority of Sir Alex Ferguson’s title-winning squads.

In fact, only three of Fergie’s 13 title-winning teams had 32 points or more after 14 games of the season.

No need to panicPA:Press Association

Which means, in the Premier League era alone, United have won TEN league titles after making a worse start to the season than the current crop.

Under normal circumstances, Mourinho’s troops would be the subjected to praise exclusively.

But we are not living under normal circumstances.

Guardiola has forged a City team which has skewed our perceptions.

Compared to City, United have looked, dare we say, ordinary?

But comparisons to City at this stage are harsh and unfair.

In all of Europe, perhaps only PSG and Barcelona would care for parallels right now?

All United can do maintain the pressure as best as possible and history tells us they’re not doing a bad job of that at all.

Ashley Young is doing his best to take the pressure of his team-mate in front of goalAshley Young’s rebirth has been appreciated by Mourinho and the fansNews Group Newspapers Ltd

Their 4-2 win over Watford at Vicarage Road last night reduced the gap between them and City to five points — though the leaders will fancy their chances of restoring that to eight points at home to Southampton this evening.

While eight points represents a comfortable lead, City could have easily been out of sight by now.

United deserve credit for staying within their radar, even if they are just a blip at the perimeter.

It’s a case of ‘keep calm and carry on’ for United, especially with the Manchester derby on the horizon.

If City maintain their current form until the end of the season then all United can do is congratulate their rivals and go again.

However, history suggests there will be a hiccup or two at some stage, and if United carry on as they are (plus a reversal in Lukaku’s goalscoring form) they’ll in position for a well-timed charge.

Manchester United thrashed Watford at Vicarage Road thanks to an Ashley Young brace and a  strike from Anthony Martial inside the opening half an hour of the contest. Watford scored two late goals to put Jose Mourinho's side under some late pressure but a Jesse Lingard wonder goal sealed the victory and points for the Red Devils. Why didn’t Mo Salah celebrate against Chelsea?

Why didn’t Mo Salah celebrate against Chelsea?

To celebrate or not to celebrate.

OK, I get it if you have been at a club for a long time, you were loved by the fans and left as a mutual decision and you choose not to celebrate when you score against your old employers.

But if you have been bought on a whim, not given a fair chance to demonstrate your skills and then shipped out by a new manager then some would argue you owe your current fans a release of passion.

However, Liverpool’s Mo Salah was most likely showing a sign of respect to the 235 people who lost their lives in a horrific terror attack in Egypt.

Salah is one of the best players in the Premier League this season and continued his great form against Chelsea.

The Egyptian played at Stamford Bridge for a year before he was unceremoniously sent on loan to Fiorentina.

Fair play to him, he eventually joined Roma and became one of the hottest properties in Serie A.

Liverpool recognised that talent and splashed around £40 million on bringing him back to England.

So when the two met at Anfield this evening and Salah opened the scoring after the ball broke fortuitously in the box, he would have been forgiven for wheeling away in celebration.

But Salah is a class act.

While some on Twitter claimed it was a sign of respect to Chelsea, we prefer the idea he was respecting those who died in Egypt yesterday.

Good on you, Mo.

Why Mo salah didn't celebrate? its not about his former club rather its about remembering those who lost their life in Egypt the terror attack. He has no reason to respect his former club which didn't give chance to shine. #bbcfootball

1-0 to LFC. Salah. Again. Didn't celebrate the goal as a mark of respect for those who were killed in Egypt yesterday. Chelsea are still threatening though. Sturridge subbed for Gini. 15 to go.

— Mark S (@jacobs_ladder71) November 25, 2017

Salah didn't celebrate out of respect to those who died in the terror attack in Egypt yesterday, nothing to do with him being a former Chelsea player.

— Savage Gooner (@OTF_Bmagic) November 25, 2017

Moment of the #LIVCHE match was to see Mo Salah score & then not celebrate.

Probably did it as a mark of respect for the 200 odd people who lost their life back home yesterday!
